What is John F. Barnes Myofascial Release?
John F. Barnes developed his specific Myofascial Release technique over 40 years ago. This technique targets restrictions or knots in the fascia (elastic web of tissue that holds your body together). Your fascia surrounds muscles, organs, nerves, blood vessels, and other vital structures in your body. Fascia is also present in and around your skull and brain.
When there are restrictions in your fascia, these vital structures and your muscles cannot function properly. Blood flow and signals from your nerves move slow and cannot communicate as fast as they should.
Myofascial Release addresses your whole body and gets to the cause of your chronic or acute pain. It uses sustained gentle pressure and allows the fascia to soften and open up. It is very safe and effective to use on infants, children, teens, and adults. When the fascia is allowed to open up, the changes in the fascia are permanent. Over time, the restrictions open layer by layer.
